Retractable tonneau covers

Retractable tonneau covers are a highly sought after tonneau cover on the market today. The price range on these tonneau covers are among the highest for tonneau covers but with good reason. They usually are manufactured with aluminum panels. Some are painted with a very durable powder coat finish. This is a very tough paint system which holds up to protect the tonneau from the elements. Others have a powder coated frame and hardware but the aluminum slats or panels are laminated with weather proof padded polymer to give the cover a leather look. All these retractable tonneau covers glide along rails which are usually clamped along the top of the truck box rails. The cover rolls up into a canister which is located behind the cab of the pickup truck. The cover usually has spring tension on it to help with opening and closing the tonneau. They are constructed to withstand a snow-load and water is directed into the side-rails and then to the canister and out of your truck box through drain hoses. They pretty much have the same basic design. These retractable tonneau covers really look sharp on the back of a pickup truck and save you fuel at the pumps. They are pretty lightweight and allow the wind to pass over them rather than hitting against the tailgate causing a drag. They protect your cargo from thieves in a couple of ways. They usually lock at the back to protect your cargo from thieves and they also just keep your cargo out of the eyes of people who like to take things that don’t belong to them. The hidden factor alone is a great asset for the tonneau cover owner. The retractable tonneau covers also protects your cargo from weather conditions such as rain and snow. Your cargo is also protected from ripping winds caused from higher speeds. This is especially great if you are carrying delicate cargo such as plants. These covers are great when you need to carry larger, taller loads as you can open them up very quickly and easily giving you complete access to your truck bed. If you are looking for a tonneau cover that opens and closes easily, looks great, saves fuel, has locking capability, completely opens for complete access to your truck bed, maybe you should have a look at the retractable tonneau covers.

Local area car auctions

When you are trying to buy a new car for yourself and your family you definitely want it to be safe and reliable along with attractive and aesthetically pleasing. Both of these things are necessary in order for you to be comfortable with driving this car that you are investing into. Also, you want to know that the car you are buying will last you for a while and that you could possibly sell it in the future and not lose a whole lot of money on it. The cars that you can find at auction in your local area or online are usually a good place to start looking for a new or used car that you can trust and have faith in. Looking online can be a great place to start looking because there are so many useful tools and resources on the internet that will help you out with this project of finding a car for you and your family. There are certainly specific sites that you can find that have all of this information in a condensed, organized form that will allow you to gain full knowledge of the car auctions in every city and on all makes and models of cars no matter what you are looking for. The great thing about looking online is that you can find out about bargains that no one else knows about and you can get cars for cheap prices that you can definitely afford. When you find some kinds of cars online you will be floored by the base price that they are being offered at and you will be simply amazed at the deals you can find that you never knew existed before until you started using resources and tools that you had right in front of you the whole time and just did not ever think to use them. A lot of cars each year are seized by the government based on tax problems, problems with the IRS, and a whole bunch of other reasons. Also, there is such a thing as the seizure of cars because there is a surplus in the country after imports and exports are all accounted for. The government then has extra cars on their hands that they have fallen into control of and they do not know what to do with them really because the supply is greater than the demand. Now that you know where these cars come from, I will explain to you the simple reasons of why the government sells them for such cheap prices at auctions and other things like that. The thing is that it costs a lot of money to store all these cars and the government does not want to throw away so much money storing the cars that are just sitting there being useless. So instead they decide to sell them for you for a cheaper price, which is no different than when a grocery store has too much of a particular item and they want to get rid of it (like how Halloween or other holiday products go up to seventy five percent off the day after the celebration).

Rc car painting

RC car painting is typically done using one of two methods: spray cans or an airbrush. Needless to say your skill level will be the ultimate determining factor since most people just aren’t that familiar with the intricacies of airbrushing. Both methods have their particular idiosyncratic advantages and disadvantages, however. RC car painting via spray cans is the choice of many not only because they either don’t have access to an airbrush or know how to use one, but also because it can be done quickly. A huge amount of space can be covered relatively quickly with a spray can. But RC car painting isn’t the same thing as changing the color of a flag pole. You want to be proud of that car and make it look as good as it runs. Although personalizing and detailing can usually done much better by airbrush, if you take your time and plan ahead, your spray can RC car painting can wind up looking quite impressive. Of course, RC car painting with an airbrush is ultimately what you should aim for. The benefits of using an airbrush is that you have access to so many more colors than you can get from using spray cans. And that’s saying a lot, because even if you do choose to use spray cans, you’ll still have over fifty different colors from to pick. But when RC car painting with an airbrush, you can exponentially expand those choices through mixing and blending. In addition to more flexible use of coloring, airbrushing also affords more control in application. Unlike spray cans, an airbrush can be adjusted, allowing you to spray the paint as thickly or thinly as you like. The downside to using an airbrush, besides your own level of artistic ability, is cost. For RC car painting with an airbrush you’ll need a compressor. You can try using canned air to begin with, but you’ll quickly find yourself spending more money than you planned on saving because they empty pretty quickly. Better to shell out for an actual compressor, preferably one that produces 25 to 70 psi. By pass the 1/8 HP hobby compressors and go for the Ѕ HP. Since most RC car painting is now done with next generation water-based paints, also make sure the compressor comes with a moisture trap; if it doesn’t, you’ll quickly find car covered in thick gobs of paint. RC car painting with an airbrush requires not just air, obviously, but brushes. Ideally, you will want to own more than one brush, but since they can be pricy—the good ones anyway—you may just want to start off with one. The reason for owing two is pretty obvious. RC car painting at its finest creates a work of art that combines both thick lines and fine lines, therefore you want a brush for both thicknesses. In addition, the paint itself comes in various thickness and some of the finer brushes just handle the thicker paints at the psi the compressor puts out. RC car painting with an airbrush obviously requires more effort, time and expense than RC car painting with spray cans, but the end result usually shows.

Uk fuel prices continue to rise haulage companies suffer

There’s been a lot of unrest lately from Haulage Exchange members about the rising fuel prices in the UK, and I can’t say I blame them! Over the past three years bulk diesel prices have increased by 23%, and have shot up 50% since 1999. Domestic fuel prices have increased its price on a weekly basis for over 2 months, really squeezing haulage companies’ profitability. I understand the need to raise domestic fuel prices – I really do. Extra taxes to be spent on essential public services are doubtless a good thing, as is the added bonus that taxing people to use cars will encourage the use of public transport, reducing our carbon emissions. I don’t quibble with the principle. The trouble is that haulers have no choice. It’s their job – you can’t expect an owner operator to take his freight on the bus! The expectation from the government seems to be that the haulage companies are benefiting from the fuel, and they should therefore pay the same as everyone else, but it just doesn’t work like that! If the haulage companies and owner operators went on strike (or were possibly driven out of business) everyone would suffer – there’d be no urgent deliveries, competition would reduce meaning the cost of delivery would go up, and perhaps worst of all for the government there’d be far less people to buy the extortionate petrol in the first place! What we need are tax breaks for haulage companies and owner operators – we’re not commuters, we don’t have a choice and we’re facing a struggle to make ends meet if the UK fuel prices don’t fall for us. And if people struggle to make ends meet, they look elsewhere for something more profitable – the government seems to be facing a UK haulage crisis, but doesn’t seem in the slightest bit fazed. We had hoped that Alistair Darling would be significantly more sympathetic to the truckers' cause, what with him previously being the transport secretary, but there seems to be no budging from him over this thorny issue. As a result of this, it’s no wonder we’re hearing talk of road blockades and striking reminiscent of September 2000. Currently, the Road Haulage Association is (rightly) advising its members that blockades will achieve nothing and be unlawful, but that’s what desperation prompts in people – desperate measures. Something has to be done about domestic fuel prices urgently, and time will tell whether the government will defuse this timebomb before it goes off. Being a member of a freight exchange like ours is a good start – if you cut down on dead mileage, then you have bigger profits to spend on the fuel, but it’s a poor consolation. We need tax breaks for haulage companies and owner operators before the industry begins to feel an even bigger squeeze. And despite the Road Haulage Associations assurances that striking and road blockades are the wrong way to go ahead with things, the longer the truckers are discontented for, the more likely such desperate measures are to go ahead - with or without the RHA's backing.

Windshield crack repair

It’s happened to all of us, driving along the highway minding our own business, when a chip of stone kicked up by the car in front pings against the window and chips it. It’s one of the most frustrating things that can happen to your car, and considering the size of the damage, it is disproportionately expensive to put right. Many people take their car to the repair shop with a stone chip in the windshield, and then get charged for a replacement at a cost of hundreds of dollars. However, this need not be the case. Under many circumstances, instead of replacing the whole windshield, you can use a windshield repair kit to fix small cracks and chips in the glass at a fraction of the cost. A typical car windshield is made up of a laminate of at least two layers of glass with a polymer resin sandwiched between them This gives the glass huge strength, and in the event of an accident, the resin is designed to hold the pieces of glass together and stop them showering into the car and causing injury. Because of the layered structure of a windshield, crack repair is possible. Usually in the event of a stone chip, only one layer of glass is damaged, with the underlying layers remaining undamaged. This means that it is possible to make the windshield more stable, and prevent the damage getting any worse, without having to replace the whole windshield. If the stone chip has gone through more than one layer of the glass, or is positioned right in the centre of the driver’s field of vision, then you should consider replacing the wind shield completely, because under such circumstances, the damage could cause impairment to the ability of the driver. If you are able to repair the windshield, you should carry out the work as soon as possible after the damage occurs. If it is left too long, the cracks can spread out across the screen thanks to the pressure of the air pushing against the glass when you are driving. As the cracks spread, the glass becomes weaker and weaker, and can eventually simply shatter under the pressure, which is obviously highly dangerous for the driver and any passengers in the car. The actual method of repairing a stone chip or small crack in the glass is simple with the appropriate windshield repair kits. Although different manufacturers package the kit differently, the actual method used is roughly the same. Windshield crack repair is carried out by injecting a clear resin into the crack or chip under pressure in order to completely fill any spaces, then the resin is cured rapidly using a special light that leaves it as hard as rock. If it is carried out properly there should be no distortion of vision when you repair windshield crack damage, and in many cases, the resin bonds so well with the edges of the cracks that the actual damage is much less visible and distracting for the driver. As well as small windshield repair kits designed for a single use, larger professional kits are also available that contain enough resin and equipment to perform up to 100 repairs. Because it is a fairly straightforward task to repair cracked windshields using the proper tools, there are many companies available who will carry out the service on your behalf, although at a much higher cost than doing the work yourself – albeit a lot less than you would have to pay for an entirely new windshield. The windshield on your car is there to protect you at all times, but it must be clear to see out of to help you avoid any trouble in the first place. It is vitally important to repair any damage to it, no matter how small it is, to ensure your safety, and also to prevent it getting worse and potentially costing you a lot of money.

Garage safety tips

Here are some basic safety tips when working on your car or motorcycle in the garage or automotive shop. 1. Support the vehicle properly – Don’t go cheap and use some homemade jack to raise your car up off the ground and don’t use the bottle jack that comes with your car to lift it up and then crawl under it. First use a good floor jack that can support at least 1 Ѕ tons. Once your car is in the air, use some good jack stands to keep it there. Never crawl under a raised automobile weighing several tons without the proper support. 2. Wear proper safety gear – This one seems obvious, but most mechanics just grab some air tools and go to work. Safety glasses are cheap and will save your eyes from falling debris. It only takes a little metal shaving to stick in your eye and cause a lot of damage. Mechanic’s gloves are also becoming very popular. They are thin enough to allow a mechanic to feel bolts and tools and they still provide protection. How many bloody knuckles have you gotten from smashing your hand on the engine block? 3. Use the right tools – It is very tempting to just improvise with what you have on hand in your garage. Beg, borrow or purchase the right tools for your auto project. A good example, is not using a good torque wrench. You can easily damage an expensive cylinder head on your engine if they are not torqued properly. Also, use a good transmission jack. Transmissions are made of soft aluminum and can be easily damaged. 4. Buy a good manual – This one will save you a lot of headaches, frustration and money. The old adage “when all else fails, read the instructions” definitely applies to the automotive shop and garage mechanic. Chiltons produces great manuals and will more than pay for itself 5mon sense is not that common – Use your brain too. It is all too common to see people working a gas tank on their car with a cigarette hanging in their mouth or working on a running engine with their neck tie hanging down over the fan blade.

Take care of your woodie station wagon it s the emblem of the california beach surfer

Nothing signifies surfing on the west coast of North America as much as “Woodies” – Wooden station wagons. They were inexpensive, could carry a surf board or boards easily. As well they could serve as a crash pad at night, parked along the beach or in a parking lot whether it be on the coast at a California, British Columbia or Oregon beach. Initially woodies had a place since many potential car and automobile buyers who could not afford new station wagons would have bought such cars second hand. A wood body that was well card for seemed to last for years and years - even in humid climates such as Vancouver. It was true however that a portion of these woodies were not cared for by their owners and as such there were many lemons among this crowd. When moisture gets into the cracks and open joints of a “Woodie” or as well into rips in the roof fabric, all sorts of decay can result. It’s a situation like the Titanic. What lies below the surface of the body of the vehicle can often be much more serious than an owner or potential buyer can think or even imagine. A wagon that had been driven regularly every day is likely to be in better shape than one that stood around for weeks, or even months, in a damp garage – because the moisture would have been shaken out of it and dried up by the sun. It pays to look twice at a station wagon that has not gone as far as it its age would lead you to expect. It may be in worse shape than a similar vehicle with a much higher odometer reading or a newer vintage. Neglect will be costly to you as a buyer of a vintage Woody automobile. Wood bodies were not self maintaining. A wooden body should have been maintained and revarnished every six months. The best finish is the most dangerous, however, if the joints are not filled properly. Wood filler should be worked into all cracks and coverered with a thin line of varnish. Otherwise water will have entered these cracks and be trapped under the heavy finish – eventually eating away the wood. Similarly tears and small openings between the roof and the molding should be sealed promptly with weather strip cement. Paint, wax and varnish should not be used on fabric roofs. They will cause the fabric to crack. A light application of thin oil will keep these fabrics more than pliable. Watch out that the drainage holes in the bottoms of doors and below the vintage sliding glass panes must also be kept open to preserve a Woodie Wagon’s body. This can be done very easily and simply by poking a stiff wire up through the holes occasionally. Be careful of danger signs when evaluating vintage Woodie station wagons. Among the signs are – a musty smell, ugly fungus growths on the inside wood as well as discolored wood either inside or outside of the auto. Any of these signs of trouble can mean a fair amount of work will have to be done on the wagon within a year. Black or green discoloration is usually very serious, but gray areas along the top edges of horizontal frame members. The direct rays of the sun affect these edges most, and the grey spots usually can be bleached out and revarnished. Lastly watch out decayed wood and patchwork repairs that have been concealed by paint. Look carefully for any depression in the surface of such a car body, and for cracks where there are no joints. Press these areas with your fingernail. If the wood is soft, and there are a number of such places move on. A very presentable Woodie station wagon auto is the very emblem of the California surfing image. Help maintain the tradition.
